The Lynwood City Council voted unanimously last night (Tuesday January 17) to create an ad hoc committee that will interview and make recommendations to the City Council on the appointment of the City Treasurer by February 4, 2023.

The City Treasurer’s position opened when Gabriela Camacho was elected to the City Council last fall. She was sworn in as a Councilmember at the December 6th Council meeting. The Council voted at that meeting to appoint a person to fill out the Treasurer term to ensure continuity and avoid the expense of a special election.

City Clerk Maria Quinonez accepted applications through January 1st and five persons applied. The City Clerk is the local official who administers democratic processes such as elections, access to city records, and all legislative actions ensuring transparency to the public.

They are in alphabetical order

  • Jorge Casanova
  • Rebecca Castro
  • Luis Gerardo Cuellar
  • Linda George
  • Yolanda Rodriguez Gonzalez

The Ad Hoc Committee is comprised of Mayor Oscar Flores and Councilmember Camacho.

"We wholly appreciate the public comments received regarding the appointment of a new City Treasurer. The five applicants will now be interviewed by the Ad Hoc Committee who will then recommend the most qualified candidate to the council body,” said Mayor Flores.

The Council will convene in special session before February 4th to hear the Ad Hoc Committee report and vote on a replacement.
