LYNWOOD TREE PLANTING COMPLETE---THE CITY IS GREENER!

tree people

If you think Lynwood looks a little greener, you’re right.

1000 new trees have been planted in our city---trees that are meant for our urban environment. The trees were planted because of the city of Lynwood’s association with TreePeople and a grant from Cal Fire.

“This partnership with Tree People has been vital to our City Council’s efforts to help improve the environmental condition in the community. These new trees not only make Lynwood more beautiful but they also serve to improve our quality of life,” said Mayor Oscar Flores.

Trees help fight pollution by cleaning the air and climate change by conserving water. Urban heat, which is worse in cities like Lynwood where there is lots of asphalt, can be reduced by shade---which is exactly what these trees will provide our city. There are several different species of trees that have been planted. They are non-invasive species whose roots won’t go through pipes, lift up the sidewalk or grow higher than the powerlines.

In addition, residents received over 200 fruit trees that they could plant on their home property.

We thank TreePeople, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, for helping us make our city look and feel better.
