In honor of Black History Month (February), the City of Lynwood’s Department of Recreation and Community Services, in partnership with The Citizens Council for Cultural Awareness, is sponsoring two contests for students – a coloring contest for elementary school students and an essay contest for middle and high school students.
Winners will be recognized at the February 21 meeting of the Lynwood City Council and have their winning essays and coloring pages displayed at a City facility.

Coloring Contest:
Rules: Competition open to elementary school students in Lynwood. Coloring pages available on the City's website (https://www.lynwoodca.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=655) or pick up a copy at the Lynwood Youth Center, Community Center OR Avalos Center.
Page must include: Student name, grade, school and parent contact information.
Page must be submitted by 6:00 pm on FEB 17, 2023

Essay Contact:
RULES: Competition open to high school & middle school students in Lynwood. Student’s choice to write a reflection on a prominent African-American inventor, invention or innovator.
THEME: REFLECTION ON BLACK HISTORY MONTH: INVENTORS, INVENTIONS OR INNOVATORS
500 word minimum
Essays must be received by 6:00 pm on FEB 17, 2023
